I recently had the privilege of meeting one of the most amazing and Avant Garde make-up artists in the world! He goes by the name of "Kabuki." Kabuki is originally from England and was already an accomplished artist by his teens. He has done make-up for the ladies of Sex & the City, Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani, and Iman to name a few. And has worked with every major fashion magazine in the world. His paintings and drawings can be found in various galleries, books and magazines. I was invited to spend two hours at the Hammer Museum in L.A. sipping champagne while listening to Kabuki himself do a demonstration of the fantasy make-up he recently created for Katy Parry's "E.T." music video. Kabuki shared with us his process for making artistic decisions in ambitious, collaborative endeavors, videos as well as editorials and fashion shows. I was truly in awe of the transformation he created on the model right in front of us. This was the first time I had seen a make-up artist translate his love for art onto the human canvas.
